Baked goods on another level! Such unique, mouthwatering options. The biscuit for the breakfast sandwich was a delightful balance of sweet and savory. We also had the olive oil cake and a slice of the honey pie, which is my new favorite pie!!!
Obsessed with this place! I frequently visit Charleston and this weekend was the first time I tried Weltons. The staff were so kind and helpful. My favorite was the dark chocolate croissant and chocolate chip cookie.
My husband and I had a wonderful experience here. The shop is very cute, small but welcoming! The staff was extremely kind and helpful, answering my questions patiently and giving great recommendations. We got 4 pastries to try dining in, and every single one was amazing. Their croissant dough is incredible. Some of the best pastries we’ve ever had and our favorite bites during our weekend in Charleston. We ended up grabbing 5 more pastries to go so we could share with family later. It was expensive but worth every penny! The coffee was good, but the pastries really shined! Would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting and will be a non negotiable stop any time I visit Charleston in the future.
Weltons never disappoints! From the pastries, to the drinks and the amazing service, it is a great spot for a quick bite or to enjoy the nice weather out. I went now with the new bake shop open and it is so beautiful! They have their system down to make ordering seamless and everyone’s attitude behind the counter was great. It shows that the ladies manning the counter and register definitely enjoy working there, and I would too with all the amazing pastries!! Seating is available outside so do look at the weather forecast before heading out or just grab and go! Definitely one of my favorite spots downtown!
Chicken salad croissant sandwich and muffuletta were amazing. Chicken perfectly seasoned. We split a slice of delicious olive oil cake which was not overly sweet.
Wow. What a great find. We were on a stroll and came across this amazing little bakery. It truly is tiny but had a lot to offer. All the pastries looked amazing. We went with a couple of recommendations of the staff. We had the honey pie and olive oil almond cake. Both were amazing. The staff were so friendly and helpful. They have a small outdoor patio with cute seating. I just loved this nice tiny surprise. I highly recommend when in the area.
Welton's Tiny Bakeshop is charming. It represents everything that is quaint, soulful and bewitching about Charleston. Service is up there for most wholesome, heartwarming and kind I have ever encountered anywhere in the world. The staff is nothing short of wondrously lovely, and the pastries are nectareously delectable. Every time we visit, we are greeted by incomparable geniality and heart. And the vast majority of the pastries exude technical excellence. My two critiques would be the price point, and the kouign amann. The price point is unreasonably steep relative to the servings, easily competing with some of the pricier bakeries in Florida, New York, San Francisco; only the latter tend to offer substantially more [amount + awe-inspiring oomph] for the same dollar amount. Yes, Welton has garnered widespread acclaim; but so, and to a greater degree, have Arsicault, Bachour, Sucré Table, and so forth. Yet each of these, and myriad others, sell substantially heftier, bulkier, Michelin-caliber goods for comparable costs. Prime example? West Palm Beach's Aioli, recently Michelin-recognized and still offering an astounding array for modest price tags. When your kouign amann is priced on par with Dominic Ansel and higher than Arsicault, you are overestimating your own merit. Fortunately for Welton, Charleston is a slowly-blooming patisserie desert (with the likes of Grit stepping in, and others not far behind; or long-standing, exquisite authentic French hidden gems, like Christophe's), and competition is scarce. The more money flows South, the greater the race will be for a small-city clientele. Scarcity relative to demand is the very first rule of economics. It is easy to flourish as sole tree in an oasis. If judging proportionally, the gradually dying-out "Flaky Flash" promotional price tags often better suit the quantities. We had an amazing experience here. We went on a Wednesday morning. Short wait time. We got the blueberry kolache, dark chocolate croissant, and the cardamom sugar kouign amann. We also got the toasted croissant latte to drink. All pastries were 5/5 stars. My favorite was the kouign amann and my fiancés favorite was the blueberry. The pastries were flaky and fresh. The latte was very unique and flavorful. I like how they incorporate the croissants into the flavor. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in the area. One of the best bakeries we’ve been to and plan to recommend to our wedding guests in the fall.
Our experience at the Weltons bake shop was really a good one..the shop is cute and the staff is very friendly! On a weekday the place was ao busy - it became obvious that it is a favourite with the locals in Charleston The baked pastries and croissant we tried were fresh-flaky and melt in the mouth ! The iced coffee with oat milk was really nice ! We tried the chia pudding with granola...it was outstanding ! Must go when visiting Charleston!!
Be sure to come early because many of the best pastries sell out quickly. This place has a super cute vibe and some nice outdoor seating if the weather is good. They offer a lot of unique pastry flavors, and everything we tried was really tasty. It’s a great spot to stop for a relaxed breakfast and a good pastry. I’d definitely recommend checking it out if you’re in Charleston.
